Personal Background

Hi! I'm Ethan Villanueva, a second-year Computer Science student at the University of Nottingham. As a proud Filipino, I have always been taught to value hospitality, respect, and resilience. I am currently in the midst of deciding where I would like to specialise, but right now the world of AI and Machine Learning fascinates me. I adore the idea of being at the forefront of new technologies to solve genuine real-world issues. I’ve worked on a very wide range of projects, spanning across areas like predictive modelling to web applications to networking, so who knows what I'll end up doing! Alongside my studies, I’m preparing for a Year in Industry placement to gain invaluable hands-on experience. I strive to make an impact. Not just for me, but for everyone.

(Fun fact!: I actually never intended on going into computer science, but astrophysics. With absolutely no experience in anything computer science related, during a summer break I decided to do an online introductory course (CS50x) purely out of boredom. And voila! I enjoyed it so much that here I am now.)

As an avid student at UoN, it's been such a thrilling and rewarding experience for me so far. From the outstanding research-led teaching, to its vibrant community and picturesque campuses, life at University of Nottingham has been nothing short of extraordinary. Nottingham has enabled me to find genuine connections with like-minded people, whether that's through hands-on collaborative projects or engaging in campus events and societies.
